Frequently Asked Questions
How does the '“challenge box” work exactly?
Fair question! This is a totally new concept that we’re creating as we go. Here’s the short version: Instead of telling you we’re hosting our race as usual on Thanksgiving morning and then being forced to “go virtual” and scramble to get you your race items, we’re going to do the opposite. We’ll get you everything you need to have an awesome “at-home” experience, while continuing to work with the city for an in-person race, should the current situation change.
Will the event take place in-person on Thanksgiving Day?
We’re local to Des Moines, and have a great relationship with the City. While we took all of the necessary steps to hold an in-person event, Des Moines continues to enforce a moritorium on gatherings of more than 250 people. Therefore, this year’s event will not take place in downtown Des Moines, but will instead take place ‘virtually everywhere.’
How does the Race Timing App Work?
Using your phone’s GPS, the tracking app will log your race day miles for you. Once you’ve completed the 5K your results will be automatically uploaded into our finisher results. You’ll also be able to use the app to cheer on your friends and family as they compete. You can watch a video tour here on how the app works. We’ll send more detailed information on how to use the app as Thanksgiving draws closer.
So, is this a run? If so what’s the distance?
Like most things in 2020, this year’s Turkey Trot will be what you make of it! However, if you’re planning to run along with us on Thanksgiving morning, wherever you are, the official distance will be 5K. The app will track your progress and let you know when you’re finished.
What is the time frame in which I can run and submit a qualifying time?
Our event will kickoff Thanksgiving morning and can be run through Sunday, November 29th. Run times will need to be uploaded before Sunday, November 29th 11:59 PM CST to qualify.
I missed the “Registered Athlete Emails.” Where can I find that information?
A PDF copy of our Registered Athlete Emails can be found here :
First Registered Athlete Email
Second Registered Athlete Email
What are the extra ‘ Turkey Trot Contests’ to the event and are there prizes?
We’ve included five extra contests to make this experience a little more competitive with other families who are participating. There will be trophies. Each contest will have a winner and be rewarded with a trophy that will be sent to your home. All photos and videos must be submitted by December 1st to be eligible to win the contest.
How do I get my box once I’ve purchased it?
There are two ways to get your box once it’s been purchased: If you selected to have your box shipped we will have your box postmarked to you no later than November 18th. If you’d like to save the postage, we’ll have boxes available for pick up in the Des Moines metro area starting on November 16th. More information on pick up location will be available as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
All ‘Leftovers’ Trot Boxes must be picked up from Heartland Soles before Thursday, November 26th (Thanksgiving Day.)
